New Girl
My bad days are few and far between, but they do still come, the difference is, now, I can step away from my bubble and look at each day, good or bad, as a blessing. Even at their worst they are nothing compared to what they were. I was never able to get out of my own head before. (I have medication and loads of therapy to thank for that (and beaucoup hard work!)) If I had never hit that pothole yesterday, I would not be able to appreciate the amazing day that today was, nor would I appreciate the friends and family that are my backbone. It was the little things that made the last twenty-four hours so special. And good news is approaching on the job front! I’m finally getting an honest chance to follow my dreams. It’s ‘bout damn time.
I said it before but Ill say it again:
2010: my life fall apart.
2011: I painstakingly put it back together again.
2012: I’m making it my bitch.
This year is promising and beautiful. I feel refreshed and renewed. I put the past behind me last year and I got nothing but clear skies ahead. Eat my dust. Watch me shine.
My goals for this year include:
- work in a confectionery!
- learn how to drive
- acquire a passport
- visit Niagara Falls (the Canadian side!)
- refresh my digital life, found HERE
- read more books
- get healthy, lose pounds
- learn how to cook
- move into my own apartment
- get good grades
- let my photography shine
- breathe New Orleans
- express gratitude every single day
Where’s love you might ask? Love is a way of life.
Ain’t gonna rush it.
I’m already following through with almost all my goals. Now if only someone would bring my bestie back from Thailand already! Counting the days!

Football season starts tonight! I’m glad I get to watch the game with some amazing people and we get to celebrate a special birthday! I really don’t say this enough but if there were more Mark Hecks in the world, we would live in such a beautiful place. He is an astounding person, hard-working and determined, with a great big heart that doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. Congratulations on your weight loss successes and thank you for striving to bring great music to this wonderful city. But most importantly, thank you for always supporting and loving me. You are a true gem; I treasure you and our friendship. Love you<3<3<3<3<3<3

I can’t get enough of this song or video and I love that I discovered it now. Since Boston and especially with my move back to New Orleans, I’ve been cutting a few people/things/ideas completely out of my life and I feel really good about the choices that I’ve made up to this point. Part of what I’ve been working on this past year is accepting people for who they are and with that acceptance, figuring out where they fit into my life and how. And sometimes, I’ve discovered, the best thing for me and my life is to walk away from some. Love isn’t always the answer and I think that rings true for friendships as much as it does for relationships. There’s only so much I can do and I can’t do it alone. I have a great support system right now and I can’t keep people in my life who keep springing leaks in my boat. I’m a good friend; I’m respectful, loyal and supportive. I deserve the same and I’m not settling anymore, not with men, not with friendships… not with anything. And to be honest, I’m just not the same person I was even just two years ago. Farewells don’t always have to be sad and I’ll always have a hug set aside for the people that have come and gone.

My move back home is quickly approaching so today my goal is to spend my time with my family and focus on gratitude. I would also like to wish my dear friend Kara Anne Larson a very special 25th Birthday. Nola, I’m coming home!

Happy Mardi Gras y’all!
I might have missed out on catching a coconut from the Zulu king and shaking my tail feather with the Mardi Gras Indians but some things remained the same: I got to spend the day with people I hold dear to my heart and I over indulged in a colossal amount of king cake. I also came home to an amazing surprise package for me and my brother, Christopher, full of amazing New Orleans goodies from my lovely friends. It really makes me appreciate the people I have chosen to keep in my life as well as the people I have let go of this past year. And although I missed Carnival this year, I can still, after many battles, sit here and say, I’m celebrating my life and I’m more in love with it than I have been in such a very long time. Laissez les bon temps rouler! <3 <3
